Role Description

The Peer Counselling Support Staff (PCST) is a team of individuals who provide support to both callers and Peer Counsellors (PCs) on the Nisa Helpline. The PCST team is responsible for boosting engagement and providing mutual and professional support to PCs who are actively taking calls.

  • Key point of contact for frontline staff, be available for on call support for Front line staff on a rotating basis for a 16 hr helpline.
  • Provide backup and direct caller support during escalated calls.
  • Providing feedback, coaching, debriefing and professional support to the Front-line Peer counsellors.
  • Be familiar with community needs and available resources.
  • Identify training or Support needs for Peer Counsellors.
  • Support and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of an efficient reporting system.
  • Attend regular meetings with frontline and support staff for updates.

Qualifications

  • BSW with relevant experience or MSW preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills and competencies of a Peer Counsellor.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with trauma‑informed care, Applied suicide intervention skills, and culturally responsive practice.
  • Strong, reflective communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Tech‑savvy, with familiarity using reporting and tracking tools.
  • Experience working as part of a dynamic and collaborative team.
  • Additional Language skills are an Asset (Arabic, French, Urdu).

Nisa Helpline is a project of Nisa Foundation (a registered charity in Canada), that offers peer-to-peer counselling, support in creating action plans, referrals, emotional and spiritual support and encouragement to women, seven days a week.
